Portrait in contemporary view
Portrait has a long history in Iranian art. Remaining portrait paintings of political and historical figures from the Qajar period indicate this. In the modern era, portrait along with still life was one of the first subjects that attracted a lot of attention from Iranian artists from the beginning.
The evolution of modern portraiture can be checked from a focus on the social personality of models and pay attention to the inner features of portraits to reach the artists' interest in leaving “a memorial, code symbol” of their models and their scrawls and the hit of agitated brush.
In the contemporary period, the same interest and tendency has promoted the motivation in experienced artists to create portraits in new media such as digital photos and even today's video art.
