Exhibition of works by contemporary Sri Lankan artists

Curators: Jagath Weerasinghe & Latith Manage
These radically new, yet artistically interesting young men and women are attacking the established ideas of excellence in art from a consciousness formed within the habitat of a rural periphery by positioning their bodies and lives as the crux of the matter of art making!
Put in other words, “small town”
Srilanka is impacting its mark in Colombo’s metropolitan art world.

From Theertha to Tehran
Sri Lanka is a land with mysterious ancient history, which has been the backbone of its contemporary art. This has caused a deep, rich and soulful art. An interesting and valuable point of contemporary art of Sri Lanka, is the work of a group of artists in an integrated way. Theertha had been able to be united since its inception for almost 19 years.  It has brought artists together with unique and particular characteristics from different generations so that it becomes a space for arts and culture  which is still the heart of contemporary art of Srilanka after all these years.
Theertha in collaboration with Jaleh Gallery and Rah residency has organized an event to provide the facility for Srilankan artists to have the dialogue and thought exchange with local Iranian artists in this specific period of time. The aim of this partnership is to develop and improve the knowledge about contemporary Srilanakan art in Iran and provide interaction between two countries. Meanwhile, the complicated situations of Iran and Sri lanka and their rich cultural and artistic atmosphere can evoke inspirations for upcoming art creations.
