Persona

The city is a framework within which identity is continually shaped and redefined under the gaze of the Other. In everyday life, individuals construct an image of themselves in order to navigate and conform to social relations—an image that gradually comes to replace lived experience. At times, this constructed image becomes so convincing that the boundary between reality and representation dissolves, transforming the lie into an embodied truth.

In this solo exhibition, art functions as a critical space through which this mechanism is examined and confronted. Focusing on the relationship between the city, its inhabitants, and art, the works revisit the question of contemporary identity within the context of urban life. The figures presented in this body of work are less individual portraits than metaphors for the contemporary subject: a subject whose identity is continuously negotiated and reconstructed within a network of gazes, judgments, and social expectations.
