Stitches Align for Harmonious Song
Artist: Azadeh Nikoo
A Needle from a Gentle Woman
Pecks at the body of a white bird
The stitches align,
The flowers fall from her lap
The sky gazes at the dance of a leaf
The bird, nestled within a warm poem
Drifts into sleep …
The woman, still stitching
Makes the flowers fall in love
And sets the birds free…
My poem — not as a text, but as a living gesture — became the starting point for a new approach in employing this technique across my series of works. The stitches and weaves, which have accompanied me since childhood through clothing and handmade objects, have now transformed into materials from which my visual language takes life. I remain within a trace of the mended threads and textures of being, and every stitch becomes a series of intermittent threads of lived memory and presence, stretching across the fourth dimension of the image — time
Beyond threads and seams, lived materials — from personal garments to hand woven fabrics, dried plants, and even the marks of a needle upon fibers — become mediums through which memory, life, and meaning intertwine. This series is a poetic gesture, shaped through reflective and introspective vision; where the boundaries between life and death, dream and reality blur and emerge simultaneously across the surface of the fabric.
