Solo Painting Exhibition

Artist: Laila Sieber

Curator: Mahmoud Maktabi

In some areas of the old citiy of Tehran, it is still possible to see the past, shining through an otherwise modern city. It seems like looking at memories with an uncertain future and I ask myself: What remains?

As I talk to people about the great poets of Iran, I think they will never be forgotten. But what about the ordinary people and their every day poems? I encounter A young girl, that finds peace and calmness while paintingand dreams to earn her living as an artist.

A veteran who tells me war can never be good. A widow who laughs with her son as she remembers how she fell in love with her husband. And a clerk who answers my question: nothing remains.

I'm freezing a moment with the analogue camera of my dead grandfather whereby I connect to a past I did not know. I choose my motives carefully, framinga visual poem - with the exhibition, it is now up to the viewer, what will remain.
